I'm planning to re-pot mine today. Just need to buy some fresh compost and I'm not sure what to get looking at all the compost threads we have on here :) Maybe B&Q Verve.

The black plastic has raised the temp of the soil a couple of degrees, I'll be planting my sets today in one half of the bed.

Their bed now is looking quite impressive? Covered with debris netting to keep Chickens, cats, foxes and other pests out, also good frost protection!

        Hiya Vince.

It's still early days yet. I would normally grow 'regular' Onions which by this time wouldn't look too impressive, but it's amazing how once they get going, they are transformed:blue thumb: A bit difficult to see, but it looks like you've given your bed a good 'mucking':)

I like your netting Vince, I'd forgotten about keeping out animals. A couple of years ago fox cubs played roly-poly in my onion bed, broke all the tops off.

Repotted mine, they had good root systems. If you recall I used a product called 'Rootgrow (mycorrhizal fungi)' on half of mine, I can't see any visible difference so far, they all looked like this:

They are all in my unheated greenhouse now, they are too big for my grow-lights:

Oh I should have mentioned I had a bit of a job repotting them, the leaves are very floppy and I bent a few in the process which I think will die off. I think it's going to be even more tricky doing the final planting, I guess they will just keep producing new leaves.

Looking really good there John:blue thumb: Looks like some good root systems. As you know, mine are in the greenhouse already. Apart from a couple of times recently when I had to add heat, night temps are not too bad. We've had a few nights at 10c or more, almost balmy :snork:

I think they will do better in the greenhouse now, I wonder if mine were getting a bit lax/floppy due to being indoors under artificial light all the time?

I think artificial light is a compromise, better than nothing, but gives us the option to start stuff early. Maybe the light spectrum is a factor?

4 large bags of horse manure went into that bed last autumn Freddy, I'm hoping it'll have the desired effect! :please:

                Hiya Loli.

If you knock one out of it's pot, and find that the roots look like Johns, then they need potting on :blue thumb:

                    I agree with you Loli.

I could see the roots starting to poke out the bottom of the pots, so I assumed mine needed potting on.

Did you manage to get the pot off without damaging the plant itself? Mine didn't like being flipped over. You must have a better technique than me.
