Many companies won't deliver to the island but when I find one that will they usually charge high prices. The week before last I ordered a 3 litre shrub on the internet. Having shopped around some places were charging as much as £30 to deliver here. The plant I ordered was to be shipped and delivered by a courier, the cost being just £5.50 which I thought was good. The plant arrived in a pot and double boxed, it was delivered by the post office! Now I'm totally confused!

I've been sent a few canna tubers from a nursery in the Orkneys, it was quite a big parcel and I was only charged £5 sent via Royal Mail. That's very good so I think businesses must be able to get much better rates than us.

John, back in the early 90s I worked at Hozelock and if I remember correctly they were charged by the PO a single price for any item they shipped, be it a hose nozzle or a garden pump.

Bad news on this, my ebay buyer never received the parcel, Collect+ are investigating, I've opened a claim which may take a couple of weeks. So for the time being I'm not impressed, I'll let you know how it turns out.
