Had a phone call yesterday from the Nursery in question, they will give me a full refund and said that there was no need to send them.

Staked the Hornbeam today. I have pruned them but i feel a leading shoot should be going skywards so tied in a few canes on the ones that were a bit horizontal.

Mowed the lawn for the second time this year. The first was in March. Still very soft under foot. I hate my lawn, it's so bumpy. I would love to have it taken up and some good stuff laid. Maybe one day. Oh to have a lawn that the mower doesn't snag because of the bumps leaving bare patches.

Have you thought of hiring a roller to even it out Mr. Grinch? You can get one that you fill with water. :)

I fear Sheal that would add to may clay compaction and would not help it drain. I have thought about it mind.
I just crave that new look lawn. No bumps, no cooch grass, no weeds, decent soil underneath for drainage. So flat that the mower glides over it. I think though it would be an extravagance in this time of austerity.

I'd be inclined to risk it Mr. Grinch, you can always open up the soil again afterwards going over with a garden fork etc. I don't think it will make a lot of difference to the clay problem.

If it's any consolation, I'd like a lawn with grass in it. :) Mine is choked with moss and I can't afford to do anything with it at the moment.

That's the thing, it looks fine until your actually above it, if that makes sense ie walking on it, then the dips and patches are evident.

And another thing, the drainage trenches i dug across the lawn has sunk in places meaning im going to have to build them up again.

My lawn is 60x50ft, yes I have the rake but I also have an old 'broken' body. :heehee: I also have an electric scarifier, but to be honest the lawn is beyond repair and needs replacing. Yes, I also have a sandy soil, but we have high rainfall here, so it's an endless job keeping the moss under control.

I have replaced my back lawn and the above is my front lawn. Both gardens were in a nightmare state when I moved in eight years ago, I've pretty much finished the back which had to be completely cleared and I've now started on the front this year. I hope to replace the lawn next year. :)
