I planted some crocosmia Lucifer corms in February, but they're showing no signs of life yet, even though we've had some pretty warm weather. My other montbretias which are a couple of years old have loads of growth on them. Could the snow we had not long after I planted the Lucifers have killed them off?

Crocosmias are tough, these could be grown quite easily in Scandinavia.. I think they will come through, but if it's very dry then they might not have the ability to poke through at the moment. just keep watering, and see what happens.. they might need a certain degree of cool to push out.

Thanks Stephen. :blue thumb: With the amount of rain we've had lately, I would think they'd be wet enough, and it's certainly cool at the moment (5ÂșC)! But it is true that things can dry out very quickly here when the sun does decide to come out, so I'll keep my eye on them and water if necessary. Other than that, I'll just have to be patient :snooze:.

They have already bloomed here ... but then again we had a warm, wet winter.

I think its just that they are newly-planted-this-season. The ones I have planted (not just Crocosmia) have not shown yet where more establish plants, of same species / variety, are already up-and-away.

It's comforting to know others are having similar experiences! (With the exception of Victoria of course :spinning:). I'm working on the patience thing :wallbanging:

My Lucifers and George Sandersons are coming along a treat. What's odd is that the ones i divided last year while in flower and died as a result, are all coming back stronger this year than the ones that were left where they were. I f i get this the right way round, they like dry winters and wet summers so as said above don't let them dry out. Might be worth trying a weak solution of liquid seaweed too.

Taking of Crocosmia ... does anyone have any Lucifer "Late"? A sport that Christo Lloyd wrote of, that he separated at Great Dixter. I'd love to get my hands on some :)
