    Hello everyone.

My neighbour offered me some out of date frozen runner beans (from supermarket) to defrost and put in compost bin. To the best of our knowledge they have never been cooked. Whether they have been blanched in the packaging process I don't know-would it make any difference?

Any reason why I couldn't make use of them or any other defrosted veg?

    Thanks.

They should be OK. The only thing I try and avoid are cooked veg as that attracts vermin.

Welcome to GC by the way :)

I'd put them straight on the top of the compost pile, frozen. They'll be defrosted in a couple of hours, but probably make a right-mess if you defrost them in a container first and then transfer to compost heap. It would avoid cooling the compost heap thought, although provided placed on top, and not mixed in (so the cold only effects the very top of the heap) I don't think it will matter.
