I want to fix new latches & stays to my windows, have got the new ones and needless to say the screw holes don't line up but the new hole will be very close to the old one, is there a wood filler I can use that will fill up the old hole but let me drill again right beside it?

There are two part fillers available, but personally I would just shape up a piece of wood, similar to sharpening a pencil, dip it in PVA glue and hammer it into the old holes, then cut off with a sharp chisel.
Assuming we at talking wooden windows.

Yep, I do exactly the same - apart from perhaps 'tapping' the piece of wood into the holes as opposed to 'hammering' them in - glass and hammers tend not to get along too well! If you've no matches, use a cocktail stick (or two)
