Just checked the weather on the met office and it says this
At present levels of UV are higher than normal for this time of the year. Measured levels have fallen into the High (index levels 6-7) rather than Moderate category (index levels 3-5) which we would typically expect in late April. The public are therefore advised to note the higher level of risk than is indicated in our current forecasts and to minimise their sun exposure particularly between 11am and 3pm when the sun is likely to be at its strongest.

So slap on the sun cream if your lucky enough to see it

Ive never been burnt in the UK, but Im surprised those UV level are as high as that.. the record UV ever recorded in the UK is something like 8-9, which shows how weak our UV output is compared to the rest of the world. Even Scandinavia can record higher UV. I'm not worried though, as I've been thinking the sun was too weak here recently. You can feel UV, it presents itself is an itchy feeling when you are over exposed (UV isn't the heat you feel), but recently I just havent felt that UV, and as a result have not picked up a tan, but then again its been generally too cold here to go out and wear short sleeves.. so I wouldn't know.

No news on that since 2011 Pete, but it did say back then that extreme cold & high winds made the situation worse. So it could well be.
