Sunflowers - frost hardy?

    These are some of mine from last year. They produced loads of flowers per stem.

        I do get my fair share! :)

        In the first photo, those trees you see behind the fence, belong to the local council and are being taken down due to some sort of disease :cry3: which is so, so sad. Mind you, they were going to be replaced by Ash - last year brought a rethink on that one :heehee:

        In the second photo, the tree behind the sunflowers is a pear tree and behind that, prunus of some kind (also seen in the first photo in front of the fence).

        Last year, I planted some young fruit trees in that area of the garden (you might just spy a young pear in front of the left hand shed?) and of the 8 trees I planted, 5 have taken really well; I even have blossom on them this year :yes:

        But, as most of us know, with trees come .... squirrels! Bliddy poachers they are too! :gaah: They tried to eat all the sunflower heads before the birds could get a look in :paladin: So, I had to 'deadhead' some of the sunflowers and reserve some seed (some for sharing, some for birds). They came in very useful this Winter, I can tell you!
