This looks yummy, I'm planning to invest this year in some rhubarb crowns I've spotted some on eBay and also a local fruit tree nursery sell crowns of 'Timperley Early' so I've fired off messages to find out what constitutes a crown and how old they are etc. I shall file this away for next year maybe if I get some nice sized plants.

I have always wondered if a combination of several types of Rhubarb might make it better, not just one type. I don't grow it, but get it cheap enough from Amish farmers, a huge bunch for a dollar, so worth it for me to buy it. Anyway, like with apple pie, they say a combination of types of apples is better than one type. Who knows. Just a thought. And would not this drink be pretty in ice cubes, and then pour lemonade on top of it. Or vodka .

At the mention of strong liqueur redstar I spotted this the other day in "The River Cottage Year" which accompanied the series a few years ago with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and he has a not to dissimilar recipe for a syrup which he uses in a number of delicious sounding cocktails
