Is it me or my Agave that is confused?

I decided to try and separate some of the offsets and when I got it out of the pot I found these apparent new shoots growing in a downward direction.

Are these new pups, and would they be a
    better bet for division?
Also, how should I go about it?
    Thanks in advance.

Agave pups often go downwards when the are pot grown, I've had them appear through the drainage holes.
On most I wish they would not pup and just get on with growing the main rosette.

I just remove them with any root they might have, as close to the parent plant as is possible.
    Then pot up singly.

Me too, as I want a biggie soon as possible!
But some spares will be good.

      Thanks!

I find that succulents that produce pups, often grow bigger if you remove them.

Only dry them off for a day or two.
Mostly with Agave I dont bother, I pot them up into damp gritty compost straight away.
It seems to work OK especially if the connecting stem to the mother plants has some roots, you dont want them to wither.

Thanks Pete. I potted them up this afternoon in exactly that mix.
