Frosts next week?

Low overnight temps are forecast for the nearest town and it's normally 3-4 degrees lower at my edge of village plot, so with clear nights, winds dropping/changing direction, frosts look likely middle of next week. This is why I don't bother planting tender stuff out until June (especially if planting through polythene mulch as the temp can be another 1 degree lower on top).



I'd better take the azada and cover my spud shoots.

 

We've got a -2c with freezing fog forecast too. Already got my beans out though.

 

Night temps of 5°c here middle of next week , rising to 9° by next weekend . I was going to plant my beans today but next Saturday looks a better bet.

 

Night temps here next week are 5/7c, no frost but still cool for mid May, deja vu 2012!

I'm a little sceptical of these forecast temperatures.. it's possible there might be a 2-3C in the most rural spot, but in most places, mostly likely around 5-7C. These automated forecasts in general come from the Global Forecasting System Model, and that model is notorious for over exagerrating cold night temperatures. Just to highlight how incorrect it can be, last week, it showed -5C for London tomorrow night.. in that case you can see how bad it is.

 

We've got 3 degrees forecast for Tuesday night, 4 for Wednesday and then warming up considerably by Friday to 24 degrees by day and 13 at night

 

I got -4 deg C in May 2011 at my rural plot, exactly as was forecast and it killed the tops of my spuds despite them being covered up and also got to tomato plants in coldframes.

I'm starting to get depressed, again!

 

The Weather badger shows -1°c on Thursday night , while my trusty Weathercast shows 7°c. Thats a difference of 8 degrees ! Even the gloomy BBC weather shows 5°c . Somethings wrong in this high tech satellite era

 

Its gonna look odd with a duvet over the beans, but that's whats gonna happen
