    Can anyone help every year when my Monkshood starts to get buds a small black insects attack them and destroy the so I end up with a stunted plant and no flowers . Unfortunatly have no photos at present . I have just given it a spray with Provado Ultimate bug killer to see if that works any ideas welcome

    Well, Provado is systemic and will stay in the plant so that when it next gets visited by pests and they suck the sap they will die. Unfortunately by the time that happens the plant will be in trouble. I take it that the Aconite is in the soil and not in a pot? It sounds like black fly that's doing the damage and really the best way to keep them under control is a daily check if you can find the time. If the Aconite is in a pot it could be the Sciarid fly which lay eggs and come out of the compost.
