Logo/Banner!!! Didn't even notice it until it was mentioned.

I don't care one way or the other as I don't bother to look at it (same as I don't bother to go to the front page) :).

All I'm really interested in is how the forum performs and how easy it is to navigate (and read the font :heehee:).

There doesn't seem to be the Book section anymore.

I never like changes to the site but understand it has to be done. :) In non computer speak, the new flip down headings on the front page I think will be less inviting to prospective new members who want to have a look around. If that's what faced me as a new member I really wouldn't bother and go elsewhere, it doesn't draw you in. Also it's annoying to have to hit that tiddly little 'x' or '-' which I can hardly see, to drop the forum list down and would be so much easier to hit on the band that surrounds it.

Regarding the new heading, sorry, that's a non-starter. Why blue? It looks like an after thought and doesn't blend in with the rest of the format. As Kristen pointed out, having the 'inbox', 'alerts' etc way up the top is not easily accessible either, in fact I hadn't spotted them there and had to ask where they had gone. Once again they look like an after thought, particularly as they sit in the unnecessary black band.

However, my criticisms over, I do like the new logo. :dbgrtmb:

I thank Richard, Nathan and Admin Staff for there hard work in keeping GC up and running for us, despite my moans at the alterations. Sadly you can't keep us all happy, all of the time, but that's the way it has to be and I accept that. :)

I agree. Technically speaking I don't think there is an speed issue here, all the "detail" of those panels is already "in" the page so whether displayed initially, or not, it will not change the page load time. So no benefit to performance on the server, one way or t'other. (Unless RR tells me I'm talking out of my wrong end and there is a performance benefit, of course :) )

It "remembers" which ones you have open. So if you open the lot then the page will stay like that (for you). So ... on that basis ... (and assuming no performance penalty for the server) one option would be to have them all-open and anyone who wants to can "close" ones they are not interested in (as, in effect, a personal-settings preference). Newbies will at least "see the lot" them, and be able to quickly judge what the site has to offer.

Only my personal opinion, of course, but I agree. It looks "bolted on" to me. Perhaps if it was cropped to the width of the "display pane" and the clouds came up either side?

I'm not sure its "punchy" either. I thought the old "The only gardening forum you will ever need" strapline was a good subliminal advert too, but I know absolutely didly squat about marketing.
