    Hi Guys
    first question on the board
I have noticed a different type of grass appearing in my lawn in various places and I was wondering is there anything that I can do?

Hi Steve, welcome to Gardeners Corner.:snork: We've got a few knowledgeable Lawn gardeners and I'm sure that they'll be along to give you some advice. I take it that it is a coarser, more wider leaved grass that's appeared? Grass seed is carried in by the wind, brought in by birds etc so lawns are prone to imperfections I'm afraid. But I'm sure some good advice is on the way.:coffee:

At a guess I'd say it's couch grass and once it gets to grips tends to spread. There's no easy way to remove it but you could try digging it out. :)

Naah, a "Weed and Feed" doesn't affect narrow leaved and stemmed plants like grass, it lies on the broader leaved plants and kills them. No lawn will remain perfect unless it's worked on every day meticulously and coarser grass dug out and replaced with seed or turf.:dunno::snork:

They say the more you mow, it cuts off the coarse grasses and weeds so they give up.:dunno:.It doesn`t seem to work on my lawn, I have a huge grass area behind me, 3 football pitches on it, covered in every weed available, a grass area beside me , covered in the same afore mentioned weeds, and an extensive grass area in front of me , you guessed it !,the same weeds.
All go to seed and are wind borne, so all I can do is mow them off,and it looks quite tidy till they poke their heads up again. :wallbanging:

I have had a very similar problem to yours, looks to me like could be 'Yorkshire Fog.' Plenty of articles on the net about how it grows and how to get rid of it.

One option is to use Roundup Gel as this can be carefully applied to specific leaves. This causes the broader leaved grass to die back, you can then reseed.

I also use a half moon iron to create a cross cross pattern which can help prevent the grass spreading. Cutting the grass short helps to limit it looking so obvious but cutting short can lead to other issues. Simply digging it out and reseeding is possible but need to ensure all roots are removed.

Plenty of grass experts on here more qualified than me so you may want to take their advice rather than mine! Good luck
