Sown mine - 'Paton Twins Giant', a few seeds from 849 & 1058 lbs pumpkins left over from seeds I was given last year (thanks Steve) and a some from a cross between those 2. Plus some small 'Halloween' pumpkins.

hi guys, Name is Allan, I'm new to growing pumpkins and really want to get involved. I fear that I may be about to have problems with my seedlings. I planted the seeds to germinate and start growing around late Feb beginning of march, these were grown in a greenhouse until about the beginning of April. After that I planted them in raised beds that I made in my garden lawn. (I must of been lucky there hasn't been a frost) I used compost made entirely of grass clippings. And spaced the plants about 4 inches apart thinking that some wouldn't survive. Well any way my pumpkin plants are growing but are turning a yellow colour and I have no idea why. Anyone that can help?

          Welcome to Gardeners Corner

Although they haven't been killed by frost, it's most likely that it was still far too cold to plant them out in early April and they've just been sitting there sulking ever since. Unless conditions are right they can go backwards after planting out - mine did that last year and they were planted out early June, but it was really awful last year.

Have you seen this thread? http://gardenerscorner.co.uk/forum/threads/gc-pumpkin-growing-challenge-2013.51573/ Most (all?) of us have haven't planted out yet. Mine were sown on 9th May and will probably go out in about a week, by which time they'll be in a 9" pots.

P.S. Had they been potted on in the 6 weeks between sowing and planting out?

I agree with Scrungee, it's too early to plant out. Shame as you have done everything right and they look like good sized plants. Maybe if you get some cloches or other protection over them they might recover.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. yeah I've seen the pumpkin challenge page I've ordered some seeds that were recommended on there, so ill probably plant some more. The seedlings seem to be growing fine they only had there baby leaves when I planted them into the ground and the pic I posted was taken today so you can see they have come a long way. Do you think they will die off? I planted the seeds in small pots (square inch and a half width pots) and left them to germinate in there, then put them outside for a week or so then straight into the ground. are the Atlantic giant ones (from the competition forum) any good for eating? Also I was wondering if any one else is having problems with this site? it seems like a very good site for the forums but its a bit buggy(having problems with the site logging me out whenever I go to a different page), just not sure if its my computer or not.
