    Hi

I am wanting to get my lawn thicker and greener without spending a lot of money on it. As you can probably tell by the pictures - I am not a keen gardener but I do like to have a nice looking lawn.

I was thinking of putting some grass seed all over the lawn but I don't know when to do this etc etc or whether this would do the job.

Please can you provide help with my lawn?

    Thanks

I have already answered your question!

The only thing I would add, seeing pictures, would be that you mow it more regularly. My guess is that it was really long and you've smashed it to bits recently, which is why it looks like straw. Sharpen your mower blades and mow once a week on the highest setting, and it should come through.

    Thanks

When i come to dress the you mention "working it in" - what is this please?

Are any grass seeds ok or should I avoid certain brands/type?

Using the back of a rake, spread it over the lawn and keep working it until the grass comes through and it has levelled the soil. It's difficult to explain, but just search for applying top dressing on YouTube and you'll see what I mean.

I used to use a rake (upside down) but found it time consuming and fiddly. Nowadays I use a sweeping brush. I find it much easier.

Just read this post. My lawn is green but has an under layer of brown dead lawn. Also it is patchy in areas and keep getting a lot of weed. I have tried to over seed but the new grass is a different colour ( of green that is ).

I have been trying to tackle this for 2 years. Any help would be appreciated.
