I've only been once, about 10 years ago, and I feel that was enough. My sister won tickets from the Guardian and took me along.

I recall the sea of tents, the filth and rubbish left every morning being swept up by giant hoovers, the massive, scary crowds, (I'm not keen on crowds) and two people dancing naked round a makeshift monolith attracting a rather interested crowd.
The only band I remember was Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Also, John Peel driving past us in his car. which dates it a bit.
I think the best place to be was the circus tent. Fun, relatively empty, dry, warmish, quiet.

I guess I was just too old!

It's one of those events that has a profound effect on understanding human nature. I've been twice and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Seeing the sun set from the healing field in the company of so many people is nothing short of magic. The choice of music, film, circus or drama is amazing.

It's a few years since I went, so it may have been spoilt by the marketers, like so many things that are driven by money-making, they don't know when enough is enough...

    Regards,
    Steve

        Not been since 1987.

        Rain, rain, rain.

        Mud, mud, mud.

Stuck in tent for a whole day.

        Didn't see any bands.

Drinking water was so full of chlorine & pond weed it was undrinkable.

Interesting to see people pulling tents up to avoid the sewage slick running down the hill when the toilet overflowed.

        Quite a good time really:)

I went to the first 2 in 1970/71 & it was still called Pilton Festival then but never been since & have no wishes too... It is far too big & commercial now.. It is like a town of tents & campers.. I don't think much of their music line up either these days.....

I was at school in Somerset just along the road from Glastonbury and went to the 1st 1 in 1970? (must have been about that year) Wow it was something else to us little sheltered souls!!! I certainly remember there was an odd smell in the air which I hadn't smelt before and a haze of smoke accompanied this aroma! We had been told in no uncertain terms that we weren't allowed to go...just ignored that then. It was the era of the hippy/flowerpower and many of this ilk stayed in Glastonbury after the festival was finished and took up residence in Glastonbury, this wasn't exactly met with great joy by the local population and many shopkeepers had signs up barring "hippies" from their shops. Discrimination was a lot more tolerated in those days!
I haven't ever been again so can only imagine what it's like now...very commercial and weather dependant I expect. Perhaps it's 1 of those things that you should do once probably never to be repeated!

I was there that year, parked up here (next to The Green Field)

Remember Car Henge in 1987? One of my mates help build it:

I was there from 3 days before it opened to 3 days after it finished and I can't remember a single band!

£210 per ticket to see a bunch of OAPs, that's an awful lot of beer vouchers.

Cripes, Scrunge, it looks wild. Maybe I should consider going again!

So in my case, nearly, that's OAPS watching OAPS, then? The grey pound is a wonderful thing, but what are all the yoof doing? Not at home saving for their university fees, surely?

It's amazing how two people can have such a different perspective on exactly the same phenomenon, isn't it!

                  Cat v dog
                  Half full v half empty

Bet you can guess which one I am!

I can think of 250 better things to spend £210...that's true! Thank you all for getting your view across, now I have a better idea.

Think I was in the Glebe bit, although I did spend some time with the convoy lot, had a couple of mates on it. Ashley and a girl called Anna who had her own coach with a woodburner in it.

I was nice and snug with a multi-fuel stove, stack of wood and sack of coal.
