Perennial Poppies are near the top of my Favourite Plants List, Palustris. I love the Peony type ones. I have Patty's Plum but not the frilled variety.........it's still a great poppy and I think slightly darker and more metallic in colour??

They do produce seed, Val, but getting them to come true is another matter. So if you wanted Patty's Plum it is better to get one that has been divided.:snork:

Or root cuttings so easy to do , dig up the clump in the Autumn , look for a root pencil thickness , I used to cut about 4 inches of root make sure you keep the right way up best tip cut the top level and a slant cut at the bottom , plant in a pot multipurpose is fine plant them upright with the top of the cutting level with the compost and then cover in grit , I normally keep in the greenhouse over winter , just keep on the moist side and they will romp away in the spring plant out late April.

Its the 1st year I have tried growing oriental poppies in this garden so who knows and the bargains I had from B&Q are coming on a treat and should all be flowering over the next week or two haven't a clue what they are but bought from the sale plants had not been watered for days but I knew a good soak and they would be fine , but last two gardens they would just fade away. I have grown Pattys Plum the colour is amazing Armandii fab photos as well

                        I did have

When we first started here, I bought a packet of mixed coloured seed. Sown and then planted out in a row to await flowering except a couple I gave to my Mother in Law. Everyone was the same red except the 2 lovely orange ones which I had given away. Worse still, it took years to get rid of the ones I had in rows. I think there is still one of them there now. Moral, if you grow them from seed, keep them all, in pots until they flower, then give them away!

My newly bought and planted Poppy white flowered Poppy and long established white flowered "Royal Wedding" have just flowered and it's difficult to tell the difference until you look into the center of the flowers and see how the stamens are so different. I'll post some pics as soon as I can to show you what I mean.:snork:
