Daylily "Hemerocallis 2013 S W S

It seems we never really pay attention to the foliage or fragrance of daylilies. I gave one away just because it had a very strong scent. I have noticed that leaves with stripes at the beginning of the year will loose them as it gets warmer.

 

Today, another FFO on a cross of College Colors x Bali Watercolor:

Only 6.5" across, but everything is curling nicely. It had a 7" sibling also open for the first time:

When siblings decide to open at the same time, you can really see the differences, like these from Joy of Life x Unk:



They are all 6" across, and it looks like they will all be staying.

Thats my excuse for growing them on the allotment lol, if anyone says I'm not using my allotment to grow veg they're leeks!!!, I do have some veg growing as well.
Aaaaw thats a shame about Octopus Hugs any more buds?, you're way ahead of me none of mine are anywhere near flowering , think the firsts going to be 'Lines of Splendor' or 'Pretty Miss' the buds are starting to elongate at last.

I like Creature of the Night, but with the dormant types, they need careful siting. Most of mine are evergreens, and if they shade where the dormants are, the dormant types struggle to grow in the spring. My dormants are finally starting to bloom, and some remain short in the shade.

 

I tend to keep at the front of the border , but its live and learn plus if in the wrong spot we can always move them , its a cracker though , the mid rib just shows it off so well deffo a favourite of mine but I like Planet max as well .

I moved Diane Taylor because it hadn't flowered after 2 years, it is making up for it (large 6" doubles). Voodoo Dancer didn't flower for 2 years, I moved it, and it just had its first one. A single, but since it has never flowered, that is progress.
I was giving a big thumbs down to one of my new seedlings because all I ever got was this;

Now I just might keep it.

 

With lots of sun yesterday, it doesn't matter that it is very overcast with fog today.

Sometimes I just want to cry. Just been to my hem bed up the garden and an evil snail was in in the process of chewing my scape off. Deep sadness. That was my only baby who had made the effort. On a lighter note, Long Stocking has put up 4 scapes so far and I've never seen it flower so that's good

 

Oh no Rolliekins I'd cry too, you never know its early enough in the season it may send up another scape, 'Long Stocking' ll cheer you up I love that one, seems to take a while to settle but when it does it flowers its socks off , the iris you sent me are flowering too veeeery pretty .
I had my first flowers open yesterday on 'Lines of Splendor' and 'Pretty Miss' neither opened fully though so I'll wait for better flowers before taking a picture.

 

Lets hope it is early enough. I'm so worried about my fragile scapes that I take the dog in the garden on a lead now. I think I may have my first hem flower in a day or two so I'll be on standby with the camera. Did I send you a pale blue or purple Iris? If it's the pale blue one, give it a sniff, it smells lovely.

Its the magpies I have to watch they're terrible for pecking scapes off one year I opened the curtains to utter devastation they were having a bit of a party and there were flower heads all over the garden it seemed they didn't like the yellows and oranges especially

 

I can agree about snails being evil. I go out back at night to check on what is attacking my flowers, and it can be like walking on egg shells, there are so many snails in the grass just outside my house. I bought some stuff to try and curb the earwigs - I find my flowers at night full of the critters.
But on a lighter note, yesterday I had a FFO on a cross from last year. Earlier this winter I cut my trees on the South side way back to let more sun in one area, and it is paying off now.

Today it is light rain showers with fog (great for late snail snacking), so any crosses I made today may or may not take. A pity since I have a flower from one I got in March:

This is H. Douglas 2009 introduction, Womanizer. I have 2 single fans of this, both with scape's. (It won't be long before Yabba Dabba Doo opens, the bud is about 4" long).
