GC Pumpkin Growing Challenge 2013

My 2 are in the propagtor...(no heat)...have switched it on over night for a bit of bottom heat...the temperature has been dropping to 6/7 degrees over night here....and during the day the chilly wind is bound to upset them....

 

Well I've taken the plunge and planted mine, the area has had several bags of 'well' rotted manure dug in as well as a good helping of chicken manure pellets. They were getting a bit too close to being pot bound and I didn't want them prematurely producing loads of flower buds so in the ground they have gone , 2 Atlantic Giant and 2 Invincible, the others are being donated to a Community Garden that is just being set up in our town

The area I have planted them in is sheltered from all winds and is a decent sun-trap too so fingers crossed they do alright

 

Here's mine. looking allot better now the weather has warmed up. I think I'm very lucky that where I have planted them gets sun for 2 hours in the morning then gets sun from about half 11 am until 7 ish in the evening. The little ones in the background are butternut squashes. I've been watering them every day, is that too much?

 

Here's my 4 after planting a few days ago, they've since got an immediate shift on and grown quite a bit already, so they've certainly settled in well and growing very well

The little canes are just to stop them rocking around in the wind a bit in case it damges the main stem, they will be removed when they become more sturdy..

I was going to plant mine, but I'm sitting indoors listening to the wind howling down the chimney and the sash windows rattling, watching leaves blowing off trees in the garden and thinking it's not a good idea as my plot is very exposed.

 

Same here Scrungee....my squashes and Courgettes need to be out too but that wind has a right chill to it.....they're going to have to go out permanent at some point but it's depressing enough seeing my poor sweetcorn looking nithered.....my onions are getting the life beaten out of them by the wind too...need to make a wind break really but i'm fed up of being buffeted about by the wind myself....i complain about the rain...but the wind really annoy me ....i stopped playing golf for that very reason

 

Been breezy here too today but not too bad to be honest. Personally I have always had a disliking for strong winds, rain I can put up with and work around it but wind?, it causes too much damage, especially through the summer when everything has 'leafed up'

Here are mine today. along with some smaller cooking pumpkin plants that just sprouted yesterday. I pulled out 3 of the plants that were growing from the bed to allow me to plant the sugar pumpkins I've started.
