I was getting a bit worried they would never appear as the garlic is a behind this year. I've finally found the scapes (or scrapes?) have sprouted from the garlic so I can get the wok out for lunch :)

I have been looking for scapes  too, so far in vain yet my garlic leaves look like they are starting to yellow. The variety is "Cristo" and gone round with a finger to guesstimate size and they are bigger than a golf ball.[IMG]

What were the bulbs of the other type like - did they have a central stem inside 6 - 12 plump cloves (hardneck), or no stem with a greater number of cloves getting progressing smaller/thinner towards the centre (softneck)?

My Christo is now over 3 foot high (38" to highest leaf tips) and is still growing strong.

I cut the scapes from my Music garlic a couple of days ago (on the left) and also removed the (inedible) flower stalks from my Elephant Garlic.

P.S. That is Wickes 'original MPC - my last bag!
