Odd wee beastie - what is it?

    Driving from work this afternoon, I became aware of a wee beastie crawling across my windscreen from the passenger side. I have no idea when he hitched a lift, but I was mighty impressed that he was able to hang on to a windscreen at 50-mph :biggrin:

    When I parked up outside my daughters school, I had to take a photo as I have never seen anything like it before. Can anyone shed any light on this wee hitch-hiker?

    The orange markings on his back are actually wee spikes; when walking the other way, his bum was quite a prominent green dot.

            Harlequin ladybird larva according to the images on that link - thank you both :)

            Quite an imposing wee thing with the spikes on its back, and nothing like the ladybirds that traditionally spring to mind; I take it that they aren't all that common then?

            I think all ladybirds have to go through that stage first,

              Apparently its an invasive species that the British ladybird struggles to compete with - however, they are still aphid munchers so will be good to have around the garden. :blue thumb:
