What's Looking Good In June 2013

Hi Simbad, that name did spring into my mind when you said

It's a nice Paeonia and I must give mine some extra TLC tomorrow and let some light in around it It's surprising how "little" room they actually take up, Simbad. Okay, when they're in flower they get a bit large but when you know they're there all year you can plant around them for when they die down.

 

Yep, it near the top of my list for the richness of the scent, plus the flower itself is breathtaking!!

 

Our hanging baskets are really loving this warm weather and they seem to be needing lots of watering - but it's worth it.

 

Our peonies are only just starting to open.













Apart from this one which has always puzzled us. It appears to be coming from the base of our pink tree peony and gives us lots of, fairly early, blooms. The bees seem to prefer it to the other peonies.

We have this montana and a very pale pink one that climbs our dead 20ft+ ornamental cherry tree. The pink is now finishing but this has at least a week or more to go.

THe runners are just starting to move along now - about three weeks behind normal but they'll start catching up fairly quickly

The first or our Phlomis Russeliana is just starting to open. Over the next few weeks we shall have hundreds of them in full bloom and then it's bee heaven. They'll be crawling all over, and inside, them.

A variegated and a nigra. The nigra is 14ft high after having been cut right back in the winter.

 

Thanks GA They're absolutely stuffed with lots of different plants. They'll need continuous feeding throughout the summer and watering at least twice a day on hot days.

 

Well, the garden is really about 3 weeks behind it's normal flowering time, Shiney, but the recent burst of warm weather seems to have triggered the plants into flowering.

Hi GA, the "Bowles Beauty" was the very first Paeonia that my wife and I bought, so it's a very special plant to me!
