    I think they are, but they just train up in different ways. Its like, I don't know, learning to cook. You might master Indian food and then be useless at cooking French food or vice versa. Same with maths. Youngsters don't do regular drills of their times tables or pages of long division etc anymore, so now that sort of thing is not second nature for them so they can't do it. However, instead they do some pretty mind blowing maths at school now. Calculus, matrix theory, formulae like Pearson's Correlation Coefficient and Fast Fourier Transforms etc.

    I'm not sure which way is best. It seems to me probably the older way because you're more likely to need basic arithmetic skills in ordinary day to day life, and if you wanted to get into science and engineering, then there's always opportunity for further study.

    The equation for Storm Relative Helicity.. one of my favourite equations.

    SReH=-h~ok(V-C) x dV/dz(dz)

    I dont have any mathematical symbols on my keyboard. pfft.

    By the way Maths is something I don't really enjoy. :snork:

      I'm one of those peculiar people that finds maths second nature. It sometimes seems a bit OCD to others as I count things (not aloud) automatically. :rolleyespink:

      Mrs Shiney doesn't bother to check me any more but the typical thing used to be when we travelling on the London Underground with friends. We would get off the train, walk up the stairs chatting and then she would ask me how many stairs we came up. I didn't realise I'd counted them but, after a couple of seconds thought, I would come out with the right answer! Age is catching up on me and I'm a lot slower and sometimes wrong! :old: :sad:

      Names - I'm not very good with!!! :cry3::heehee:

      My father knew how many stairs there were on each flight at every station and exactly where to get on at each station so he'd alight directly opposite the exit at any destination, so I assumed everybody did that.

          I am sure they have their reasons, but the timeline in two lines I really don't like it.
