58 pence reward

Our local butcher's shop also sells plants. He has them on a rack outside his shop. Wife, lad and I went to the butchers earlier, as we do most saturday mornings. Wife went in for my bacon, while I stayed outside with the lad, as he likes to take his scooter.

A gust of wind came and sent half the plants flying. I quickly picked them up. Some had come right out of their pots, so I sorted them out. Then more wind, and more airborne plants. I realised I couldn't shelter them all, so I ran to the door and shouted to the butcher that all his plants are blowing away. He sent one of his minions to come and sort it, and meanwhile I was chasing around catching and re-potting plots in the street.

Meanwhile, inside the shop, our purchase came to £5.58. The butcher only accepted a straight fiver off my missus, on account of lad and I saving his plants

 

Isn't that 58 pence reward then??

 

I've been waiting for somebody else to verify my arithmetic before asking CL1 what else they did to get that extra penny reward.

 

Indeed, it is a typo in the thread title. It should read 58p reward.

 

Well, that's stopped my imagination running rife as to how some people get their bill discounted by an extra penny.
