What Jobs Are We Doing in the Garden Today... MK3.. 2013

Decided to give the greenhouse a good gutting out, and pressure washed it as well - working on the premise that its better to do as much as possible to prevent disease and pests than it is to try and cure them?

Good opportunity to rearrange stuff and get my cucumbers staked; both sides has two rows, with the left side being cucumbers, courgettes, peppers and a few tomatoes, and the right side being tomatoes only.


Then it was onto cleaning the rest of the garden a bit, before watering everything; main border is showing signs of colour, but the foliage is romping away at the moment and hiding some of the blooms:


Peas and beans haven't done much:


And the 'waiting area' in front of the veggie bags is slowly filling up:



Had the first garden lettuce in a sarnie yesterday for lunch, and it was lovely The onion seedlings in the tray on the table are destined to be eaten as spring onions, as I don't have room for them anywhere.

And finally, it was another look at my poorly honeysuckle - definitely need to get my finger out and get some fungicide tomorrow.

 

I'll agree with that, FC. Your garden is looking really good and it shows the effort you've put into it!! Well done that Man!!

It feels a bit 'Forth Bridge-ish' at times, as I feel like I am just going round in circles and not really getting far - its not until I look back over old photos that I realise how much things have changed.

 

I agree with that, I can go back 30 years to see the change, but it's really in the last 10 years that the pics show just how much it's changed.

 

Now you should know by now, Kristen, after having met me, that I'm a very "slow" thinker!

Cut back the hazel that sits under the living room front window (right to ground level, as I don't like the thing), pruned back a couple of the shrubs that are up the side of the garden as they were starting to encroach on the windows blocking light out, then I removed old gate parts that were attached to the pillars, and then finally with the aid of an angle grinder borrowed from a neighbour (lovely chap) I got rid of the strike plate that was little more than a trip hazard in the middle of the gate opening. Managed to slit my thumb open in the process, which brought about some swearing before having to head inside to clean the wound and try to stem the bleeding.

Then it was out with the pressure washer to give the front garden and drive a good going over, which always makes the place look so much better. Putting it all away, I got an electric shock from the extension lead which had apparently gotten wet at some point in the proceedings (not exactly sure how, as I habitually make sure that its behind me), so after switching the mains off and clearing away, I decided to quit for the day - - they say that things happen in threes, and going by the track record of the day to that point, the third incident was looking likely to be fatal
