Well I use Anchor spreadable, yes I know it has additives but I always put the butter in the fridge although my Mum didn't she kept it in the bread bin with the bread and oddly it never went 'off''

Margarine is 2 chemical things (can't think of name today) away from plastic. Ants also do not like Margarine.
I only keep Butter and olive oil in my house PERIOD.

molecules-----that 's the word I wanted. Margarine is TWO MOLECULES from PLASTIC.

And I only bake with butter, cook with butter and olive oil.

Butter ... I like salted, t'other half unsalted, but between us we probably have 250g every two weeks, if that, so we're not pushing the boat out here ... and enjoying every smidgen of it. :yahoo:

Sorry, redstar :love30:, that's an urban myth - but it sounds good.

Although I wouldn't dream of having margarine in my house, it's nothing like plastic. Plastic products are made from long molecules (polymers) and margarine isn't. Margarine is made from vegetable fats but is processed in such a way that it produces the dreaded trans fatty acids.

Talking about things being one or two molecules away from something else really upsets the chemists/biologists as it's meaningless. If it has a different molecule or just an added one or a subtracted one, then it's something totally different. A good, easy, example is H2O and H2O2 . They're only one molecule away from each other but the first is water and the second is Hydrogen Peroxide :rolleyespink:

Woo, I get whatever is the cheapest, salted, butter on the supermarket shelf. There's very little difference between butters apart from the additives (salt, colouring etc) Except from which cows they get the cream. :heehee:

I can still picture my grandparents sitting either side of the coal fire, in their armchairs, chatting to each other and shaking the little wooden churns they held in their hands. :)
