It's the night time temps that are the problem. Could you bring them in at night?

 

I could Freddy but it would be too much hassle. There's between twenty and twenty five trays of seedlings already and pots as well.

The temperatures on the island tend not to get as low as the mainland, so I might get away with it. I could construct some sort of bubble wrap cloches I suppose. Something to think about.

Mine are now around 9" tall, and are showing signs that at last they are getting a move on, not much of a root-ball though. How are yours Sheal ?

 

Good to hear they're doing okay Freddy. Mine are pathetic! They look healthy enough but they are only 3 inches high. Along with everything else I've grown this year they just don't seem to be putting on any top growth. All my flower plants are hardened off waiting to go in the ground but they just aren't big enough and the slugs would just devour the lot. I fed them all earlier this week to see if that would make any difference.

I think the main problem is that it's cold at night. This is why I've got heat on in the greenhouse, and it'll probably have to stay on for a couple of weeks yet, I expect.

 

That's possible but the island stays warmer overnight than elsewhere. As I type it's currently 9C and is unlikely to dip below that tonight.

Isn't it quiet on here tonight? All the 'noisy' ones must be at Shiney's!

I've decided it's time to pot on into the 'final' size pot. What would be a sensible size pot?

 

I'd say 9" ??

 

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, but as I've never really grown these before, I wasn't sure.

 

What size is a size 9 pot please?

Not "size 9" but rather "9 inches diameter"

They're ok, but not growing at a rate that I would like. I suppose they are nearly 1ft tall? The top leaves look a bit stressed. I've checked for pests but found nothing. I'm hoping that potting on might help. How are your plants doing?

 

Story of my season, so far, on all counts - not just Peppers. Rather dry here which, coupled with cool temperatures, and lots of cold nights in May and some even in June, means not-a-lot-of-growth.

 

They're not doing to badly Freddy, about 9 inches high at the moment, I've been giving mine tomato feed as they weren't growing and leaves were starting to yellow slightly, they look better for it. I'm not sure whether to pot them on again or not, they're in 2ltr pots at the moment.

Everything I've grown this year, tomatoes and plants for the garden just don't seem to be putting on any growth, flowers are just a figment of my imagination at present.
