Just wondering. Where do you get your Cacti/succulent seeds from? I have just sown some Echinocactus Grusonii and I am hooked! Growing from seed is fascinating. So now I am trying to find good suppliers.
    Many thanks. :)

Depends what sort of seeds you are after?
If you want some general "mixed" cactus seed, Chiltern would be ok.
If you are looking for specific species or genera, Mesa Gardens has a fantastic list.

Not sure you can get hooked on Echinocactus, but I often get hooked up on Ferrocactus:biggrin:

They will grow quite quickly if they are in a decent soil.
And while they are growing, don't be shy to water......as long as they are in a well drained mix.

Remember though, if they turn pinkish or brown, they are getting too much sun and need a bit of shade.
                They should be green.:)

Yup, Seedlings do need shade until they get to a cm or two.

                    Thank you. :)
Yes, they are all green at the moment and look healthy. I have all sorts growing now and the big surprise was how quick they all germinated.

Yup, cactus and succulent seeds does germinate quickly.
I suppose in the wild, if there is a short wet period, they have to take advantage.

I'm now wondering when to take the bags off them? Does it do any harm to leave them on?

Once the seedlings start producing a proper body and spines (ie are no longer just that green blob) you can start exposing them to the air.

I germinate my cactus and succulents using the following method:

Each pot gets covered in clingfilm and goes into an unheated propagator on a windowsill.
Once the seeds germinate, I poke holes in the clingfilm and one the seedlings start developing proper bodies, the clingfilm comes off totally. The pots remain on the windowsill until the following spring when they go into the greenhouse.......if there is space......

Thank you Sirius. That is so much clearer than other advice I've been given!
I'm off to poke holes in by baggies right now, then. :)
