They also have drop-off points (usually 7-11 type stores, so "open all hours"), so for anyone out-at-work that may be more convenient than trying to get a package to a post-office.

Is MyHermes only for people who have a printer at home? I've just looked at their website and it says to send parcels you have to print off their labels? If so I'll have to take my name off the list as I don't have a printer. Not sure if I've got the wrong end of the stick though? :dunno:

Yep I've just looked at their FAQ and you do need a printer to use MyHermes .....just a heads up for anyone on the seed list who hasn't got one.

Yes you need a printer to print out the address label with barcode. It doesn't need to be at home, you can print it out at work. It has caught me out, I have a home printer but it ran out of ink, so I had to delay getting the parcel to the local collection point

Anyway I'm sure we wouldn't force people to use MyHermes, I can't see any problem with folk using Royal Mail if they want - it might be more convenient for some people if they live right next to a Post Office for example.

Yes it would be better for me to use Royal Mail. I don't work as I'm a carer for someone who's ill and I'm not well myself so it would be the case of asking my OH to call into the post office for me. :)

I think Hermes or any other courier service, are only suggestions, not "this is the service you must use" it all went under discussion with the loss of a parcel, and the increase in Royal Mail prices. It has to be which is most convenient for you, check out the drop and collect places as they are sited most conveniently, and may be quicker for O.H.

The key benefit for my of MyHermes is that they are the first courier I have come across that is affordable for one-off parcels. In fact I think they may be cheaper than the Big Brand Name that we use at work - and we have a large contract with them. But MyHermes don't offer guaranteed next day, they have a parcel size limit (fine for most things home-users would want to send - e.g. suits a lot of eBay sellers), and I find that in practice MyHermes have delivered next day. MyHermes will only pick up "tomorrow" (again, our courier at work comes out "today"), but so long as you place the order the day-before that's fine, and if you drop off at their local store early-ish in the day I have found that they then pick up "today", so it in effect becomes a next-day service (albeit not guaranteed), for a fiver, which knocks spots off the outfit we use at work!!

End of advert for MyHermes, which I think is brilliant :)

If you are a new user get someone to introduce you so you both get the 10% introductory discount.

How about we all copy the list and then change our own name to blue colour to show we are still interested in the scheme (like below)? We can give a deadline of, say 15/07/13, to declare ourselves. If by then any names haven't changed colour they will be deleted from the list? :ideaIPB: Maybe someone has to monitor the colour change a bit in case two people put up posts at the same time.

I've added a STAR * too (colour blind people may struggle to see Blue and/or to pick it from the colour list in the editor) , and to the people that added in the last couple of days to save them a job :)

pamsdish Suggest that, once the deadline is passed, you start a new thread, post the rules as the first post, and the revised list, and add a link to it from this thread - and perhaps Admin then close this thread?

Pam: You happy to do this, as before? or do you want to pass the aggro to someone else? :sofa:
