Freddy, yours look much squatter and whiter than mine. Are you growing Kelsae (same as me)?

JWK - google "onion bull neck" I hope it's not that, but it's been so many years since I once had it happen by overdoing the nitrogen too late that I've forgotten what it looked like.

I was just adding a second sentence to my last post when you posted. I think my onions ended up looking like giant spring onions. It was the nettle, urine & comfrey feed that did it - fantastic stuff it was too, my onion bed was 10 yards from a hedge with a footpath the other side and I can still remember the exclamations of disgust from people walking past.

I haven't used that comfrey mix that I added the chicken manure pellets, it won't go anywhere near my onions now - maybe just my Pumpkins!

I'm going to add a light dressing of Sulphate of Potash now to see if that helps, I usually apply it later in the season to my sets to help the bulbs harden up.

                  Hiya John

Yes, Kelsae. I really hope it isn't Bull Neck John, after all the time and effort, oh, and not a little expense. I can't tell from the pic, are they all the same?

Veg Man Dan's (note the writing on that label - "big", plus the use of an unopened Stella bottle -such restraint - in lieu of empty Merlot bottle)

I've seen something about bull necking elsewhere on the web written by GC member 'Tee Gee', which included a reference to the stems having a 'plaited' appearance, so it might be worthwhile tagging him.

I feel bad now, having started this in the first place.... I suppose it highlights the fine line between plenty of feed, and too much.

                      Don't feel bad, it's a competition.

To be Victorious you must clamber up the steaming pile of broken bloodied bodies, proudly stand on the top holding the severed heads of the loosers by the hair and loudly proclaim,

                      IT IS ME,

I AM THE WINNER, I HAVE DEFEATED ALL THOSE THAT DARED TO CHALLENGE ME.

I AM VICTORIOUS AND THE OTHERS ARE VANQUISHED. :paladin:

Shame about John's Bull Necks though.
