What Jobs Are We Doing in the Garden Today... MK3.. 2013

Mowed the lawn, gave everything another good watering.
Pinched out the trailing fuchsias, flower buds starting to show at last
Pricked out some wall flowers and potted up

 

They can be big - compared to French Marigolds at least.

 

Went out early doors and gave a gazillion plants a good feed (with the watering can).

Then finished off the shrub border. The fencing will be covered in plastic to stop the dogs weeing up the plants until they are a bit bigger. I tend to strip the leaves off lower down for a couple of reasons : a) I prefer the look of the plants when I can see the base and b) the dogs cock their legs and if the bottom bit is bare they hit the trunk as the urine kills the leaves). It'll look better once I've finished painting the fences. There are seven shrubs in a row :

Camellia
Rhodo
Acer
Camellia
Acer
Rhodo
Camellia.

Probably gonna widen the border and plant some smaller dwarf Rhodos at the front in between the gaps.



Later on I'll be mowing the grass and painting fencing (subject to weather).

 

A wonderful assortment of pretty plants there GA. It's very clear that you are a true lover of some of the best Cottagey type garden flowers and I love it,

Harvesting gooseberries (and getting scratched to high heaven in the process!) And then to discover I've not got enough sugar... So jam-making will be tomorrow or Wednesday now!

 

Brushing whitefly off my roses, gotta get a spray!!

I cut my Choisya back today after collapsing under it's own weight a week ago, it's now looking very sorry for itself. Weeded and tidied up the two tier bed I have in my back garden and took some Clematis cuttings.

That's good to hear GA . My 9 are happily growing on in their final pots and will be planted in the front border, under the wall in November.

 

You are doing everything right FC- just like a loving parent for their brood. How could every plant not want to do well for you!

 

Raking loads of water soldiers,every one that emerged after winter had 3 or 4 babies attached and parrots feather weed out of the pond , where does that stuff come from I certainly didn't put it in, all piled on the side to give any critters a chance to get back in the pond, the fish are loving all the space and getting quite frisky , noticed a couple of baby newts in there again too

 

If only we could have a day without rain so I could get out and paint the fences/garage

Forecast to be nice Friday, which means I've wasted nearly all of my week off work when I was going to do it.

Weather forecast says it should have rained at 8 am and been dry with sunny spells the rest of the day. Wish someone would tell the weather gods!
