Sal gave me this, not sure what variety it is?? Its BIG though Sorry, should have put something next to it for scale.


Festuca glauca "Elijah Blue" that I planted next to some Heuchera metallica that I grew from seed - cheap way to get some Heuchera and I think they don't look too shabby They are probably more "robust" than the fancy named ones too. The lass on the Heucheraholics stand at Chelsea recommended to me that, on my heavy clay soil, I stick to the ones with large leaves as they will perform better for me. Anyway, here's my Blue Grass (I'm loving the seed heads - will they come "true" from seed?) and Heuchera from above:

Ooooo Kristen I've never tried Heuchera from seed now you've got me surfing the seed catalogues!!!!!! , are they easy to germinate, any special requirements ?
The blue grass seed heads are lovely I have one thats been in my garden years, originally from my dads garden think he called it festuca glauca ? I noticed today it had lovely pink seed heads, I must have been walking round with my eyes closed for the 15 or so years I've had it as I've never noticed them before
I've grown several grasses in the past carex frosted curls, buchanii, comans bronze etc and all come true from seed

So so many beautiful and unusual flowers I think I am suffering from FLOWER FEVER!
I'm sure my blood pressure rises ever time I tune into this thread!!!!

 

I bought a packet of bronze ("Metallica") and one of green ("Emperors Cloak") and comfortably got 50 plants from each packet ... may have been lucky with seed freshness etc. My notes say they came from Choice Plants, but I have no idea who that was ... might have been a seed seller on eBay. Google lists Plant Word Seeds and B & T - both of whom I have bought seeds from in the past

I also got some Heuchera Jet Black from Plant World Seeds, but looks like I never got around to sowing that.

Thankyou Kristen I'll give them a go I think, I've bought lots of seed from Plant World Seeds in the past and always been happy with them so I'll check out their website, Jet Black sounds interesting off to look now

 

Sorry Kristen, another question. What's the height and spread and does it put out runners please? Having completely written this plant off yesterday you and Silu are doing a good job of convincing me otherwise, but I'm only about 60% there.
