Bromeliads

Bought these bromeliads yesterday from a local shop. The shop sells Dart frogs and products for creating home vivariums and they had quite a selection of Bromeliads, Orchids and other rain forestry type plants.

I have no idea what species they are, but I've been advised they are fairly easy to grow. I used to grow Aechmea fasciata and that grew like mad. I ultimately got bored with It and got rid of it. Regret that now since it seems the original thorny form is no longer available. I don't like the new smooth leaved cultivar.

The first one should hopefully start producing pups soon. It has quite compact growth so I'm going o leave them to clump up.

 

They are lovely. Very pretty Adenium you have there too.

 

Thanks Lea, the Adenium was a new purchase yesterday too. I've always wanted one, but didnt ave the patience to start one from seed. I was very excited when I saw one for sale, never seen one offered before. I'm now waiting for it to drop all of its leaves!

 

Coolsox I think your 1st Brom is Aechmea Orlandiana, the second is either the same but younger and less coloured or a very similar variety, they are both cracking specimens.

I remember potting hundreds of Aechmeas back in the 60's in a large house plant nursery in Hertfordshire, not a pleasant job!!!!!

 

Thanks Strongylodon. Not long after this post I found out what they where as the seller emailed me the details from his price list. The first is indeed A. Orlandiana. The second is A. correia araujoi.

Oh, will sort your Aristolochia out this week. Sorry for the delay, with my bad foot and mother in law seriously ill in hospital I haven't had the chance I'm afraid.
