I bought this Nerium oleander from Lidl today for a fiver...................

Love that Frit Scorpio! Mine bloomed a couple of months ago outdoors.

If they're your thing then seek out F.camchatcensis....................

 

It's a beauty Keith, i'll be looking out for that for sure. Apart from the Blues, Red's, Yellows Oranges, etc, you can't beat a dark colour.

I think they are my "in" plant this year. I have Linaria Purpurea and Canon Went. If you would like some seeds in Autumn - in exchange for some your yellow one??

Nipped into homebase after work and picked up this pot and Washingtonia robusta.



Had some lovely stuff in, could of spent a fair few quid!

How hardy are they al? (And how much!)

I do think Homebase has improved this year in terms of selection - bedding plants have been great quality and value

 

One has been permanently in the ground, no protection at all and came through this winter no probs despite saying needs protection at 8c or under. It got to -7 here this winter! The other one in a pot was protected with fleece no probs again, although has suffered wind burn on the tips. so if you fleece or bring it in the garage/ conservatory etc you should have no probs.

Oh, and they are £12.50. Your welcome to pop round anytime to have a nosey!

 

Should be OK down to MINUC 8C ... but the leaves will burn below about -5C ... best to cover with fleece on seriously cold nights.

 

That will be a no plant for me then! Not sure it would be too happy even IN my house if we get a humdinger of a winter

 

You could try a Trachycarpus fortunei which should be good down to -18C - easy enough from seed if you've got short arms and deep pockets although slow in the early years, so a 5-year-old would be better

 

I bought this trachycarpus last week and planted it yesterday! £25 off eBay, a good bargain in my opinion.
