My neighbour has just told me that my Lupins (that they thought was a Foxglove) may be poisonous to my children and my dog.

Can anyone tell me the risks and should I just get rid of it or are they as safe as other plants?

    Thanks in advance.

Is that if they are ingested or just for having them in the area?

Ingested, I grew my first lupins when I was 7, never had any problems with them :)

I used to eat sweet pea seeds when I was little but I don't think I ever tried the lupins,

Considering the neighbour thought that they were foxgloves anyway, he was probably a bit confused? Many garden plants could be toxic if quantities of leaves, berries or seeds are eaten, but not many are palatable, especially to animals and children. Educating the offspring not to eat stuff straight from the garden, and / or to check with Mum and Dad first, is the best policy:)

True in theory. In practice, no matter how vigilant you are, there will inevitably be times when you find yourself in blind panic, ramming fingers into tiny mouths to extract whatever has just been put in there.

Just like you did to me when you caught me trying to eat the Mistletoe berries at the office Christmas party :dbgrtmb:

I thought that even as I was typing, Clueless:sofa:. Theplants I'd give up, though, if I had children, would be the skin-blistering ones like euphorbia and rue....

Rabbits eat just about anything. I grew Lupins in my last garden and they were the only plants apart from daffodils they didn't devour. Both are poisonous of course.
