Purple sprouting broccoli

    Hey guys I have some broccoli that has been planted out a couple of months now and two are starting to give sprouts of broccoli already I don't know the name as got them from a garden center in modules is this right or are they bolting

    Sounds like they are Summer Sprouting rather than Winter Sprouting? probably poorly labelled in the garden centre - its not uncommon :(

    I grew Summer Sprouting once, and decided it wasn't worth growing it again - we think of it as a winter vegetable, and don't really want to eat it in summer. Having said that we had some for lunch today!! (not out of my garden though ...)

      Essentially that is what sprouting broccoli is, so as Kristen says you probably have the summer variety. I've grown it in the past and wasn't too impressed by the yield.

      It's one of my "hungry gap" staples for early spring and I grow both white and purple sprouting for that time. For the first time I'm growing an early variety which I assume is the same as yours...but its far from ready to pick yet, I expect it to start sprouting in Autumn before the frosts start.
