This mini Rose was one I pulled up from the front garden. It was a tiny bit of root which was left in the soil so as an experiment I put it in a plastic pot and it's now flowering. I must have left a bit of root in the ground as well because there's another plant coming through too. Just shows how tough Roses are. Given its persistence I shall find a space for it in the garden.



If only all my Roses were as floriferous and delicious smelling as Gertrude Jekyll (notice newly painted wall behind her) - much better backdrop than the old mingy grey colour.



This strange plant seems to have self seeded underneath one of my Acers

After ????? years...I've finally got a Dierama to survive and flower. Pity about the pink sages in the background they're coming out tomorrow!

Well done on the Dierama but the pink sage is very pretty too. Hope it's spared the compost heap and merely moved to another spot in the garden?

 

They self-seed everywhere, Jenny Doubt I'll ever be without it!

Beautiful ensatas noisette I have a bud on my only one, well apart from the seedlings but they'll be a year or two yet

 

Magical You set me off on a "Oh! IWOOT!" headspin I remember seeing them in flower at the Meiji Jingu shrine in Tokyo


I wonder if it has lost its popularity? When I went the paths were packed with people - as was the case in the Cherry Season and any other "Leisure Boom" activity - but that was back in the early '70s ... seemed hardly anyone there in this video.

Anyways, mercifully they need Acid soil so I can strike that from the Must Do Projects List

 

I have a few lovely white ones. Agree they don't seem as popular as they used to be. Certainly mine don't bulk up very quickly. Must have had them for at least 10 years and maybe now have
about 20 ish so slow progress. Been good this year so maybe have appreciated this recent warm spell altho do best where not too dry I have found.

Beautiful silu , think thats the thing isn't it moisture, heavy clays not so good in its like concrete in summer my babies are going in the pond when they're big enough

 

Ensata Iris will need Acid soil though, surely? If so that definitely knocks it on the head for me (and if that do need acid soil I'm definitely not going to "work around" that - I don't attempt to do Acid loving plants on my alkaline soil)
