Strange bee-haviour

    Its absolutely scorchio here today. Proper boiling.

    There's quite a few bees outside. Not bumbles, I think they are honey bees. Not a whole load, just a dozen or so, and they are all buzzing at low altitude over the pond. Occasionally one will land on one of the plants then go again.

    Daft question, but are they trying to find a safe place to land where they can drink from?

    It could be cooler near the water

    We have bumble bees nesting in a bird box, it's in full sun and a few bees are at the hole buzzing there wings, i can only think there trying to cool the nest , so i spray some water around the box in hope it helps :dbgrtmb:

      I dont think heat bothers them too much, we have a leaf cutting bee nesting in a hole in the mortar in the shed wall (single brick), it must be like a furnace as its in full sun all day.
      I managed to snap a (blurry) pic of her carrying a big chunk of leaf back, its fascinating to watch.

      She has to hover for a fair while to get the trajectory for a safe landing, not easy with the leaf in tow :)
