Is the 2nd a young crane fly Mr Shiney?
That scruffy young robin looks as though he's been sparring since the day he got out of the nest!!

        Great shots Armandii :dbgrtmb:

We've been watching the osprey webcam from Rutland Water (http://www.ospreys.org.uk/webcam/ for the past 2 months, and are pleased to see the youngsters have fledged successfully.

Did you see any of them while you were fishing? Did they try to steal the fish from your line? :heehee:

Hi HsuH, I was at Midland Radar at RAF North Luffenham for many years just by Rutland Water [and watched them build it]. I've been going back there every year to fish in the area so I've watched the build up of the Red Kites and Osprey over the years. The fish we were catching were fairly large so that even an Osprey might have had a problem lifting into the air with them:snork:

Marvellous pictures Armandii and Strongy. :dbgrtmb: It's amazing how much detail these creatures have on their bodies. :)

Fabulous pictures, both of you :love30:.

It shows what a good eye and a good camera can do :blue thumb:

My fairly basic camera (on present day standards) is not too good at distant shots. This was from my kitchen window at approx 80ft. Woody visits quite often :)

Our Chaxii seem a real haven for the bees and other insects. This morning there were hundreds of bees with at least three to each stem of Chaxii. There were, also, thousands of other smaller flyers.

I'm not very well up on bees (or insects) so am confused by some of them.
There were a lot of these black bees with red bums. All the bees had nice red pollen sacks :blue thumb:

                P1170608.JPG

This is what I normally picture as a bee with the nice stripey effect

                P1170612.JPG

Is this one a honey bee? Mainly a yellowish colour all over and what is the insect to the right of the picture
                P1170615.JPG

And what is the green insect below this bee?
                P1170613.JPG

This is a shot of approx half our Chaxii (in the veggie plot) and the air is full with a strong humming noise

They are distinctly different from each other so, like say, dogs, are there different types of bumble bees - with different names?
