    Sorted my veg patch out,fed and watered everything ,dead headed all the containers and baskets....and prayed that my big tomatoe would stop ripening:doh:

      A lot of cutting back is now needed. I'll see how far we get before feeling too hot to bother.

            Well, today I trimmed back 3 shrubs, took all the cuttings plus a lot of old oddments of wood and cardboard down to the recycling centre.

            I then planted a lot of delphiniums and foxgloves at the back of the border.

            Then I planted cabbage,broccoli and cauliflowers. cleared up all the the bits off the lawn.

            I have now showered, and now having a very chilled cappuccino, watching 'Call the Midwife'

            I think I've cracked the worst of it today.:SUNsmile:

              Mowed the front lawn. The clover has gone over so it was time to mow.

              Then, in the blazing heat, I carried 11 sacks of rubble from the back garden, through the house, to the front garden ready for the man from Freecycle coming to collect it. Then having saw my email afterwards, I then went out and move it all again because apparently he can't make it today:mad:

                Loads of dead-heading today, and then watering. My petunia baskets at the front were looking a bit untidy and floppy (all the plants starting to flop over the sides), so I am hoping that a bit of clearing out and a good water and feed will return them to looking gorgeous.

                  'Twas our eldest 4th birthday today, after being woken at 4.30 am this morning! by him, spent the morning watching him unwrap his prezzies, then went to work, picked the youngest up, went out for a birthday tea, came back, watered and deadheaded and gave the grass another soak. Now in my pit, wife asleep and me surfing the tinterwebbage!

                  Day off tomorrow and I need some thin tall bamboo to stake a beanstalk so a trip to either b&q or homebase.

                    Mid afternoon, I came home and looked out in horror at the window box tomatoes. They looked like stir fry Chinese seaweed...:eeew: in full blazing sun they were in a right state.
                    Honestly, you daren't turn your back on the plants for more than a couple of hours at the moment,

                        Although I did pick up a lovely winter hardy hibiscus yesterday mate, that's gone in a planter at the front!

                          I spent most of the day wading around the pond doing some maintenance. My Pond Pump had "died" on me just before I went on holiday and so I ordered a new one on Monday and it was delivered on the following day. I wired it up and tested it and then put on the Chest Waders for a paddle in the pond to place it in position and then had to adjust the angle of the Clay Jug the water comes out of for the waterfall. After that it was a case of pulling out some of the Flag Iris that were pushing out into the pond instead of staying on the bank, cutting back some Marsh Marigolds and other marginal and bog plants that needed a prune. I had already checked the toms in the Green House when I got back from the Holiday but I gave them a watering . The neighbours had been watering the toms for me while I was away so all I had to do was take out some stems that were growing in the wrong place and I'm pleased as this is a better year for toms than last year. After that it was a case watering the borders and all the pots.........and then a mug of tea and a sit by the pond to look at my handiwork:coffee::snork:

                              Just been finished going around the garden, dead- heading, and watering in my vest and knickers :hate-shocked::heehee:.

                              Been keeping an eye out for the cabbage white, having seen one flitting around, checked under the leaves where I saw him stop, and sure enough the little blighter had laid some eggs, soon got rid of them, shall keep a hawkeye out now. I don't mind them having a nibble, but they can get carried away.:huh:

                              I think I shall have to start watering some pots in the morning as well, as they are drying out so quickly.:help:
