    Hi everyone,

    Looking for some advice please....

My wife would like to put up some hanging baskets and she likes Petunias and also Calibrachoa (Million Bells). Anything really that comes in a purple and trails over the edges. :dunno:

What compost would be best for petunias?

Or is it too late to consider these now that we are in July? I'm not sure whether to wait until next year and plant a more 'autumn/winter' basket instead?

    All ideas/advice welcome!

    :ThankYou:

    Kevin

Your local GC or nursery may still have bedding petunias and surfinias ( trailing ) and million bells in stock . It is getting a little late to plant them and to get them established , but if you put them in a nice sheltered sunny spot and water and feed them well it should be OK .

Thank you, I'll have a look about.

Any recommendations on what type of compost I should be using?

If you are putting them into hanging baskets or containers then go for a compost that is sold for that purpose, chose one that has water retaining properties or buy those little packets of crystals from the Garden Center to add yourself.

If you can find petunias for sale (should still be able to), then I'd say go for it. They're good right up til at least the end of summer and possibly right through autumn in my experience.
