Well the chap who so quickly expressed an interest in my broken bricks, which he said he wanted because he was building an 10' x 8' shed and needed some hardcore to mount it on, seems to have gone quiet. He did ask if he could come and see how much there was and just take what he needed, or if I wanted to do it as all or nothing. I told him to just let me know when he was coming and I'd shift it all onto the drive and he could take just what he wanted. Seemed fair enough, but he's gone quiet.

Never mind though. If nobody wants it by the time the post expires (I presume they expire), I might just take it to the tip.

I've heard horror stories about people coming round to collect stuff from freecycle and burgling them later on I should add.

Dave got his sewing machine yesterday and ripped out the working motor, saved him about £20 on parts for his lathe.

That is a worry, I won't give out my address or indeed my phone number unless I get a comfortable feeling from an exchange of emails.

Some of the adverts on freecycle make me laugh, people who put on stuff at 9:00am and state it must be collected by 11:00am that same day otherwise it's going to the dump, they seem to think it's some sort of public junk disposal service :)

I never give out my phone number on freecycle. I've seen some people put it in their listings, which is really idiotic. I did that for my old mower on Gumtree and I got people ring me up at 11pm asking if I would deliver it to them.

I won't let anyone in my house from freecycle. After having an attempted break in a few years ago it does make one rather paranoid about who you are letting in your house.

Finally got rid of my 11 sacks of broken bricks. The chap turned up in a tiny little hatchback:)

He got out, and he was wearing brand new, still clean and intact grafting gloves. I said to wife afterwards, if you're going to turn up at a strangers house wearing grafting gloves, if they are brand new, you should at least kick them about the floor a bit and generally make them look used:heehee:

So, 11 sacks, or about 300kg / 600lbs of rubble, in a little hatchback. Its just not going to happen, so in steps Gotilda. The chap put a couple of bags in his car, and was going to put more in until I drew his attention to his rear wheel arches. The rest went in the back of young Gotty, who didn't mind at all about the extra weight.

Anyway, I've got my drive back now. I'm liking this Freecycle game.

I responded to an ad for scaffolding planks, I had 3 full length and 4 halves, they strapped it to a roof-rack on a Ka, and set off 12 miles down the motorway, I was frightened to put the radio on ,in case the motorway was closed.:yikes:

I have a question for all you Freecyclers.

Tonight, I responded to an offer. I checked my email, nothing. I can't see anything on the Freecycle site to track what I've done. Being the forgetful chap that I am (I checked my posts on another forum I use this morning, to find a private message accepting all the free car parts I advertised last night:doh:), how do I keep track of what I've said and done?

I have to say I had nothing but positive experiences with this site, it was a huge help with clearing all the hideous but perfectly serviceable 2x2 flagstone which would have only ended up in a skip.

Are you using the yahoo messaging boards or freecycle's own site? Yahoo groups are much more productive imo.

I'm not using Yahoo. I didn't notice any mention of Yahoo on Freecycle. I came across Freegle which uses Yahoo, but I haven't tried that one yet.

I send a few I would like that please, and never get any responses, very often wonder if my request got through, what makes me smile are the requests for things that cost 100s, and they appear so regularly, I feel they must be dealers, there is one in particular from a certain area and I notice it because I bid on ebay for one of those from the same area,

The best freecycle sites (at least round here) are on yahoo groups. Freecycle (the company) are trying to their ties with yahoo so won't actively advertise the group anymore. So try googling your area and then freecycle and yahoo groups.

The best thing that works is if you say something like the following.

                    "Hi there,

I would really love to take your **** off your hands please. I will happily give it a loving home.

Thank you for considering me :)"

Always works for me, or if I'm too late I at least get a response.
