I think a nice postcard in a local shop window, preferably in a reasonably well-heeled area, would do the trick. Low tech, low-cost. Bear in mind most people who want a gardener will be 60+ and won't be glued to their Facebook page night and day. Also many contacts will come by word of mouth so it's important to start the ball rolling.

Help yourself to the JCB, it will be here another week, and I've got concrete coming for another project shortly, so that will take care of the "raft" .... just need to fake some Grecian pillars (Polystyrene? :heehee:) and away you go. I've even got a nice Marshalltown London trowel you can borrow - might be a bit small for your hands as I bought it for #1 Daughter to do some brick laying - she'll either give you a hand, or do the design for you :)

A good idea. My Dad 'The Gardener' (God rest his soul) did the same, and got quite a bit of work:)

also an ad on a local paper would be good but it would cost you...

You could make an advertising card (do it yourself and print off) and leaflet-drop in choice areas.
