    I love G o T.
And must say, that it is quite close to the books too.
I like the fact that anyone and everyone gets bumped off at some time. And that there is no typical Hollywood ending where there hero rides in and saves the day.

I just have to say, the Red Wedding was one of the most dramatic things I've seen on tv. Can't say more for fear of spoilers!

Does anyone know of a similar book series?

I am reading the last GOT, and was thinking of what to read next?

I've just finished the last one myself, last night. I'm going to read the Belgeriad by David Eddings next, there's a few of those as well

Does it have a similar medieval/fantasy theme?

It's definitely fantasy, maybe a bit less feudal than GoT. I've never read them before, I'm looking forward to them! Here's the wiki link for a bit more detail than I can give ;)

Cant think of anything quite like GoT - David Eddings is good, if a bit tame after all the death, Stephen Donaldson The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant is probably closest but its very dark & very very depressing. If you havent read it The riftwar Saga - Raymon E Feist is a good read.
