Following on from the success of the GC Meeting at Shiney's Open Day this thread is in order to canvass opinion on visiting Hidcote Manor / Kiftsgate Court in Gloucestershire (South of Stratford upon Avon - the gardens are next door to each other), and possibly some other venues in the area.

    Official sites:

Hidcote (other details here on GC http://gardenerscorner.co.uk/forum/reviews/hidcote.45287/)
    Kiftsgate Court

In case helpful there are some pictures on my blog
    Hidcote Manor
    Kiftsgate Court

If in principle you would be interested please reply here and thus once we have an indication of numbers we could try for some mutually convenient dates :)

Suggestions of other venues in the area, if we are up to it!, would be welcome

There is another thread discussing a GC Meet in Norfolk for East Ruston Old Vicarage / Will Giles garden:

I'm not as interested in these locations as the Norfolk ones :blue thumb:

I can't make up my mind. I didn't think much of Hidcote (compared to my expectations, entrenched since I was a child ...) but I ought to go again and re-evaluate some of my opinions!

      :heehee:
As I am sure is true of everyone (depending on where "here" is, of course! ;) )

Kristen, to make things simpler: I am delighted visiting new places and meeting new people where ever the location: just so long as I do not have to be reliant on a "Sat-Nav" contraption (odious things, for sure!) :heehee: "2nd ... "

We'll go further next time so you can giggle at "Stay on this road for a long time ..." <sigh!>

          :roflol:

I wouldn't be "sighing" ... I'd be contemplating how to fill the (long) time :roflol: (naughty thought popped into head; endex) :hate-shocked:

I'm happy to visit these two gardens again, must be 8 or 10 years since I've been.

Any interest in this trip - possibly a Sunday over the next few weeks? It's a very easy day trip for me!

After chatting to an American in another forum I'm minded that I don't have to live my life: "Americans think that 200 years is a long time, and Brits think that 200 miles is a long way" :) so I'd be up for it, even as a day trip.

Are there other gardens in the area that you would recommend?

Downside for me is that we are busy with redoing the garage into a kitchen, so it would suit me better if it was September rather than August I think ...

September sounds good (especially as the Norfolk meet is suggested for August?)

September Hidcote possibly, depends on the situation.

Its West facing ... in fact if you stay late and visit in the right season you can enjoy a magnificent sunset viewed through slit of the stilt garden.

            Does that help?!!

I might be able to make a late September weekend - would the garden be past it's best by then though?
