New to me and despite viewing whatever board/posts they appear beside, I can't get the flippin things to disappear.

P.S. I seem to be having to click at least twice to post/edit anything at the moment.

It's a very rare occasion when I feel inclined to "Disagree" with you, Scrungee (and I'm loathe to do so), but I detest the "@" preceding any username. Why? Because, in my mind, it say "at you! Username"

When it was more as a tag (and thus, more ... discrete?) it appeared to make a "username" more of an 'inclusion' as opposed to an "in yer face!" The purpose being (I'm assuming here and could end up with egg on my face :oopss: ) that the person being referred to was alerted that they had been "acknowledged" in a particular post?

Having the @ symbol openly adhered to a name, and obviously this is just my personal opinion/age/hormones/heatstroke/mania/whatever, just seems somewhat ... "rude/impertinent/disrespectful"!? :dunno: e.g. "Don't talk @ me; speak *to* me, or with me".

(Old Fogey trundles off to bed with a cup of cocoa, muttering under breath about the yoof of 2day) :heehee:

Which I why, when failing to logon using a 2nd laptop (I still can't logon using that one), I've been loathe to log out/clear cache. etc. on this one until everything's sorted.

I've still got a further 2 laptops to try tomorrow.

@shiney I'd check it out on one of our laptops that's running W7, but I'm unable to logon to GC on anything other than this one using Windows 8 at the moment.

You're reading too much into it M :) - @SomeName is a common short-hand on TheNet to indicate a named person / person's handle, in particular a comment addressed "at" that person being as there is no symbol signifying "to" ...

            I think of "@" as being the price for eggs - "6 eggs @ 2d = 1 shilling" :heehee:

              They weren't there previously.

Given the rate that people post, and the fact that some people may not want to read some sub-forums, I wonder if the NEW tags should be removed? as otherwise they are going to show "most of the time for many people"

Or a less intrusive mini-icon in their place perhaps (assuming that that is trivial to do in its stead)

Looks like all the properties are label-left and value-right, just your location is too wide to fit on the same line. Same with Marley Farley's "occupation" :)

They were previously on separate lines - Label on the first line, Value on the second. It took up quite a bit more vertical space though:

Personally I'm happier having them displayed rather than having to press [+] to reveal them. I find the Location very handy when replying, and I suspect that other people find other things useful. Newbies would benefit from seeing that advice replies come from someone with few or many posts, for example, along with how long they have been registered (not a direct correlation to guaranteed quality of course :) but better than getting a blunt stick to poke your eye with ...)
