Hot weather and ... fans?

Shiney, when we have used it in the bedroom, we put it on about two hours before retiring, then it goes into the 'sleep' mode as you rightly say. They are so efficient and cost effective these days, both for the a/c and heating aspect. People should wake up and smell the roses ... or coffee. or whatever their preference is ...

 

I've heard anecdotes from various countries indicating that driving barefoot is illegal, but nobody seems to be able to refer to a piece of legislation that says so. From what I can gather, a particular awkward copper might be able to claim you were 'failing to exercise proper control of the vehicle' if he can argue that being barefoot means you might hurt your feet and therefore not be able to operate the pedals properly, particularly the brake pedal in the event of an emergency stop scenario. Well with cars having had servo assisted brakes now for probably at least 30 years, it would take a very delicate person not to be able to withstand the necessary force on the sole of their foot to operate the brakes in a modern car.

 

Fortunately I never have sweaty feet and I am sure I am more in control of the foot pedals with my feet than I would be with high heels, clunky boots, Wellingtons, Crocs and such like which can easily get caught up on the footmats or between the pedals. To me, it would be like handling the steering wheel and other hand controls wearing heavy duty gardening gloves (thin 'fits like a second skin' driving gloves are fine).

 

I have the air con on in the car and the windows open!! the air con blows a nice cool breeze onto my face.

Well I've just been out in my Gothilde, and I had the window open, and the heating on. I wanted to let the fresh country air in, but I was a bit chilly too. I thought briefly about also switching on my electrically heated seat too, but then I couldn't be bothered to extend my fingers as they dangled off the arm rest to flick the switch on the centre console, especially as I already using one finger and one thumb for the laborious effort of steering.

Can I diversify for a moment, here's something to make you jealous.......
My sons car had to go into the workshop to have its cat replaced and a few other issues to be sorted. He's friend lent him one of his cars for a month, that car was a red Corvette! I think we'd all like friends like that.

I wouldn't know about that here. But this one's in America and apparently there are no challenges at the lights as you could be inviting trouble!

 

Very wise. I was being tongue in cheek earlier but yes, definitely not a good idea to blast anyone off at the lights, or anywhere else for that matter. Apart from anything, in the larger motor, if you accelerate hard you may as well have a hole in your fuel tank. My Gotty isn't that great from a standing start if I'm honest. Her gearbox is optimised for comfort, so 1st gear is too high for a brutal take off. She doesn't really wake up until about 20mph when the turbo starts to wake up, then if you press too hard, she flips her lid and whacks you in the back of the head with the head restraint on your seat.

 

You're quite right though Clueless the older cars are more fun than the modern ones. Many years ago I had a Triumph 2000, Carmine red and a beautiful car. It certainly had it's own character some of which we could have done without, but that's part and parcel of it.

Perhaps we should start a thread on the joys and tales of these old cars.
