Might be better as a simple step by step laymans terms thing though.

Probably not going to be realistic to talk you through it. Anyone around who is reasonably au fait who could do it for you?

Although within 48 hours it should sort itself out anyway.

If its a laptop, or an always-on computer, then turn it off (not by letting it "sleep", but properly off-off). That will kill off any cached DNS data

The other thing you could do is to do a PING test on gardenerscorner.co.uk and see whether you get the old IP address or the new one.

Open a command prompt (Start : All programs : Accessories : Command prompt)
        Type: PING gardenerscorner.co.uk

you should get something like this:

Pinging gardenerscorner.co.uk [50.28.84.200] with 32 bytes of data:
        Reply from 50.28.84.200: bytes=32 time=164ms TTL=49
        Reply from 50.28.84.200: bytes=32 time=159ms TTL=49
        Reply from 50.28.84.200: bytes=32 time=161ms TTL=49

If you get a "Reply from 50.28.84.200" that has different numbers then you are still seeing the old server's location.

You could also try clicking the Start Button (pre-Windows8) and type ipconfig /flushdns in the run box (you may need to type CMD in instead, then ipconfig /flushdns in the resulting black background window).
Then see if you can connect, mind you, if you can't connect, how are you going to view these replies??

          Not sure how.

Much easier would be to add an entry in the hosts file to avoid DNS lookup for GC in the first place. That would have the added bonus of potentially making access to GC a tiny bit quicker too.

That would go something like this:

          1. Open Windows Explorer (by holding down the Windows key and pressing E)
          2. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
          3. Double click on 'hosts'
          4. If asked what to open it in (most likely), choose Notepad
          5. Add a new line that says exactly this:

Close your browser and reopen it, and navigate to gardenerscorner.co.uk. Your PC will automatically substitute the address for the IP address and go to the right place without even bothering to do a DNS lookup.

EDIT: IMPORTANT: If it goes pear shaped, just edit th host file again and remove the new line.

          Much better idea :)

Probably best to remove that in a week or so then when GC moves again they won't be scratching their heads trying to work out why they can't see it!!

our current host has a more sustainable upgrade path, they can go as high as 12x our current server specs before we would have to relocate

one of the benefits of being on a cloud server.

currently we use less than 25% of the power of our current cloud package, so in theory could grow 3-4x before even needing to move up one grade, let alone 12 grades they have available :)

I don't handle the money side, the webmaster/owner does, so can't answer for him on his plans.

however it does cost a considerable amount more a month yes.

but the quality of the hosting is well worth it, plus 24/7 support from our host
