If your theory is correct Richard, that suggests that is it the auto draft feature at the root of the problem and isn't compatible with a variety of machine capabilities. So, the question begs to be asked: is auto-draft a necessity? Surely it defeats the object of having the feature if it is going to cause issues for people?

Likewise, although 'techies', by nature, will be running the highest specs they can afford/need, surely it goes without saying that forum members come from all walks of life, various budgets/incomes and by that logic, not everyone is going to have high spec machines with a huge amount of RAM available?

New add-on's and features are all well and good when it comes to keeping up to date from a technical point of view, but not if it is creating issues for the very people who wish to use the forum, surely? :dunno:

Just updated Java, I will confess that I have not been keeping it up todate.

Updating Java and having the ask tool bar didn't cure it! It crashed as soon as I tried to write more than a sentence.

the auto draft feature is default to the editor and doesn't use high ram (works even on tablets)

however if ram/cpu is already maxed by other processes, then it can cause a strain.

Ah, so it can't be "disabled" then?

PS: Have a look at my previous post and the attached PDF. May be of no use at all, but it may provide a hint?

can't be disabled no, as it's required for the editor, which in general is much quicker/lighter than our old one

that error is due to the forum runner phone app, the error is the pop up is disabled (as it annoyed mobile users)
      it's a benign error :)

I will look into an update for the app tomorrow , but after that I have a contract to work elsewhere

The time lag on the letters appear on the screen after typing has shortened considerably so is not a nuisance any more - but it's still noticeable.

          A QUESTION:-
The 'Draft Saved' that keeps popping up regularly in the bottom right of the screen (I've timed it as every minute) - what is the purpose of it?

If I don't lose my post I don't need a draft saved. Logical :blue thumb:

If I do lose my post - how do I get it back?

So, is the 'Draft Saved' redundant?

Is it taking up memory and delaying the print appearing on the screen?

I see there is a button that gives the option of 'Save Draft' or 'Delete Draft'. I don't want to mess around with it so haven't clicked on it. What is the purpose of that?

If it is already saving a draft automatically then I can't see a need for clicking on a 'Save Draft' button and if I wanted to delete the draft I presume it disappears when I post what I've typed.
If it doesn't disappear automatically then it means that everyones posts are being saved and stored somewhere using up lot of memory. (A definite layman's view as I know nothing about computers :heehee:).

I don't understand it either shiney but I posted on the Muppets this morning by transferring from a notepad and it all went ok on the first post reply. This has also gone further this morning without crashing. Famous last words? Apparently not! Not posting on first click again.

I can understand your frustration Moyra. It is interesting to hear that the problem only occurs with gc.
If it was extended to other websites I would have thought that the system is overheating and things like opening the tower and cleaning the fan with a brush or replacing the thermal paste would help.
Alternatively disinstall + install the browser again .
And after these tries I am afraid I would have it repaired and have the technician tell you what is wrong with it and hope it is worth the repair money.
          Keep us updated!
